This makes the selection of Al Gore seem almost Solomonic by comparison.
What must the survivors of those killed by -- and the surviving political prisoners of -- the Iranian, Venezuelan, Saudi Arabian, and Sudanese regimes -- to list but a few -- be thinking this morning? -- their plight having been conveniently ignored so as not to detract from the glow of our president's international reputation, based as it is exclusively on words and broad, largely empty, gestures. So what, after all, if a few more bodies of nobodies are thrown under that now famous bus in comparison to such universal acclaim?
The Nobel committee has sealed its fate as yet another weather vane of political correctness.

The deadline for this year's nomination was February 1, 2009. Barack Obama was POTUS for twelve days! One may enumerated his "many" accomplishments as POTUS from 12:00 Noon January 20, 2009 to the filing deadline on February 1, 2009 some other time. But have no doubt the Nobel Prize Committee in Oslo will be mocked by the Fates and punished by the gods for its presumption and arrogance. If Pres. Obama is wise he will either refuse the award or accept on the condition that the entire monetary award be paid to the George W. Bush Presidential Library trust. Pres. Obama has nowhere to go but down after accepting this prize. Fortunately it seems at this time that Pres. Obama is little more than a bystander to this fiasco and yet surely the gods have noticed his own narcissistic arrogance. Victory Davis Hanson warns, Nemesis is everywhere ...

... one would do well not to tempt the fates ...
Former terrorism prosecutor Andy McCarthy writes: The transnational progressives who pass out these accolades believe America is the problem in the world, the main threat to peace, the impediment to "progress," etc. The award is a symbolic statement of opposition to American exceptionalism, American might, American capitalism, American self-determinism, and American pursuit of America's interests in the world. That is why Obama could win it based on only ten days in office — merely by capturing the White House and the levers of power, he stands to do more for the Left's "knock America off its pedestal" program than any figure in history.
After a number of years, the NFL renamed its Super Bowl trophy after its most fitting recipient — it's now called the Vince Lombardi Trophy. I'd like to see the Nobel Foundation follow suit. If today's headlines said, "Barack Obama Wins Yasser Arafat Prize," that would be perfect.
