"Convert the hearts of your people ..."

After visiting the tomb of John Paul II yesterday afternoon (especially meaningful in light of Liz's special connection with John Paul), we attended Mass at the Altar of the Chair of Peter in St. Peter's Basilica. I was struck by the responsorial prayer used during the prayers of the faithful. The Italian was easily translatable: "Convert the hearts of your people, Oh Lord."

One wonders: Is this an indication of the priority Benedict XVI has given to the re-evangelization of Christian Europe? Walking around Rome leaves one with the distinct impression that this task is crucial to the future of Western civilization as we know it. Meeting some of the young scholars attending the conference was a source of hope in this regard.
