The mind was seeking in some way to penetrate faith; it was exploring the dimensions of it, defining its contours, examining its presuppositions, bringing to light its consequences; now it is faith that penetrates the soul; and the more it penetrates, the more simplified it grows, until it become inexpressible. The resulting simplicity, argues de Lubac, is not achieved at the expense of theological complexities and doctrinal subtleties, rather "it unifies them by interiorizing them."
